SUMMARY:Sewing School: Making trousers with an elasticated waist in the back
DESCRIPTION:Please note this is a two part workshop. Part 1 will take place on Saturday 9th March 1:30-4pm and part 2 Saturday 13th April 10:30-3:30pm. Payment covers both sessions. \nPart 1 Saturday 9th March 1:30-4pm \nThe pattern we will be using is The Closet Core Pietra. Please click here to view the pattern. The pdf pattern comes in 2 size options. Please let us know which size you would like when booking. \n\nIn this session we will accurately take our body measurements to determine what size or sizes we will need to use with the dressmaking pattern. We will then prepare our pattern and cut out our fabric\, transferring all pattern markings and finishing the raw edges with an overlocker. This means we will be ready to sew our trousers in the next session. \n\n\nThe size range is approximately UK 6-30 please use your body measurements compared to the sizing on the pattern\, do not use your ready to wear size to estimate the size needed on the pattern as they can vary significantly. \nMinor fitting issues such as grading between a couple of sizes\, or lengthening/shortening can be dealt with\, but fitting issue requiring more complex adjustments will not be possible in the time constraints of this session. If you typically experience fitting issues with ready to wear garments\, you should expect that you will need to adjust dressmaking patterns and the adjustments very much depend on the specific fitting issue. \nPart 2 Saturday 13th April 10:30-3:30pm \n\n\nIn this session we make our trousers with an elasticated waist in the back. All internal seams and raw edges will be overlocked. \n\n\nMinor fitting issues such as grading between a couple of sizes\, or lengthening/shortening can be dealt with\, but fitting issue requiring more complex adjustments will not be possible in the time constraints of this session. If you typically experience fitting issues with ready to wear garments\, you should expect that you will need to adjust dressmaking patterns and the adjustments very much depend on the specific fitting issue. \nRequired sewing knowledge/experience for both sessions \nYou need to have good basic knowledge of a sewing machine and be able to sew a straight stitch. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners. \nYou also need a basic understanding of using a dressmaking pattern. This session is not suitable for absolute beginners that haven’t got experience of using a sewing machine or making clothes using dressmaking patterns. \nWhat will you need to bring for both sessions? \n\nYour sewing machine and instruction book\nPolyester thread\n2″ (50 mm) wide elastic (1 yd/0.9 m)\nLightweight non-stretch fusible interfacing (0.25 yd/0.25 m)\nFabric (see below for measurements and suggestions of fabric types)\n\nSuggested fabrics:  \n\nSuggested fabrics:  Structured wovens such as linen\, chambray\, or lightweight denim or twill (heavyweight wovens may create too much volume at the elastic waist) \n\n\nFabric requirements:  \n\n\n45″ (114 cm) wide fabric: \n\n\nView A (Full length): Sizes 0-14 = 3.25 yd (3 m) // 16-20 = 3.5 yd (3.2 m) \n\n\nView A (Cropped): Sizes 0-14 = 3 yd (2.75 m) // 16-20 = 3.25 yd (3 m) \n\n\nView B: Sizes 0-14 = 2.5 yd (2.25 m) // 16-20 = 3 yd (2.75 m) \n\n\nView C: Sizes 0-8 = 1.5 yd (1.4 m) // 10-20 = 1.75 yd (1.6 m) \n\n\n58″ (150 cm) wide fabric: \n\n\nView A (Full length): Sizes 0-14 = 2.5 yd (2.25 m) // 16-20 = 2.75 yd (2.5 m) \n\n\nView A (Cropped): Sizes 0-14 = 2.25 yd (2 m) // 16-20 = 2.5 yd (2.25 m) \n\n\nView B: Sizes 0-8 = 2 yd (1.85 m) // 10-20 = 2.25 yd (2 m) \n\n\nView C: Sizes 0-20 = 1.25 yd (1.15 m) \n\n\n\nIf you need to purchase any supplies for this workshop contact our sister company Bugweed’s Fabrics.
