SUMMARY:Make Your Own Quilted Jacket
DESCRIPTION:Please note this is a two part workshop. \nPart 1 Saturday 9th August 10.00am – 4.00pm \nPart 2 Saturday 16th August 10.00am – 4.00pm \nOne payment covers both sessions. Materials are NOT included. There is a 10% discount on all fabrics purchased for the workshop by attendees. \nDay 1 Saturday 9th August 10.00am – 4.00pm \nThe first session of this two day workshop will be focused on making the pattern for your quilted jacket and then piecing your patchwork together. Graham will guide you through the process of using your oversized sweatshirt to create a paper pattern which will then be used on the second day. You will also make up your quilt top using your own material which you have chosen prior to the day. \nBetween the two days you will need to quilt your top\, batting and lining together. Graham is kindly offering his services at a reduced rate of £35 to quilt your fabric ready for Day 2. If you are happy to quilt it yourself that is also great but will need to be quilted by Day 2. \n\nDay 2 Saturday 16th August 10.00am – 4.oopm \n\n\n\nIn this session you will be using your paper pattern to cut out and then construct your quilted jacket. Graham will help you construct the jacket and will be on hand to provide hints and tips for the tricky bits! An overlocker will be available for those who would like to overlock seams. You will hopefully leave with your quilted jacket finished or very nearly complete! \n\n\n\n\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience for both sessions\n\n\n\nYou will need to have experience making simple quilt tops prior to the workshop and understand how to use your sewing machine. This is not a beginners class and is ideally for those quilters who would like to construct a garment. \nWhat will you need to bring for both sessions? \n\n\n\nyour sewing machine\na layer cake or the equivalent of 2.5m of fabric for the patchwork\n1m suitable batting ie a thin\, breathable natural fibre such as cotton or bamboo\nlining fabric (this can be purchased after Day 1)\na sweatshirt one size bigger than usually worn\nmatching thread\n\n\nMachines are available to hire so please let us know if you would like to use one of our machines.

SUMMARY:Embracing Creativity: Mini Portrait Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The first of its kind at Bugweed’s! A 2 day Portrait Workshop with an artist! \nWe are delighted to bring you a 2 day workshop where you can really develop your creative techniques with Richard from Jonaluisrejo Art (check out his amazing work on Instagram!!). \nAbout the tutor \nRichard has always had a love of creativity\, whether it be through art\, music or maths! Although his main career for 30 years has been in education as a teacher and then an advisor\, he has always enjoyed using his skills to paint and sculpt with natural materials often sourced by himself. He understands the need for connection between people and their environment and is a keen outdoorsman and horticulturalist. Richard can often be found in his handmade cabin on his allotment in the north east; painting on homemade canvases\, crafting and sculpting with foraged materials. He is a firm believer in a growth mindset; that all people have incredible untapped potential and skills that can be encouraged and developed. This 2 day workshop gives him the opportunity to share his skills with the Bugweed’s community and also learn from us too! \nAbout the workshop \nOver the two full days\, you will learn about how to become more connected with your artwork\, develop techniques and skills in drawing\, sketching\, painting and collage and be confident in creating your own portrait of a loved one (pet or person) to take away. \nRichard will help each attendee hand-make a canvas using recycled wood and Bugweed’s calico. Throughout the process\, he will guide you in artists techniques to help with expression and form and slowly begin to transfer your photo into a work of art. \nDay 1 \nEnjoy meeting the tutor and seeing some of his work. Grow your confidence as an artist and as a creative by thinking freely about the artistic process\, understand the importance of flow and movement in painting and begin to transpose this in to your artwork. By the end of the day you will have made your canvas and mapped out your portrait on a background that you have painted. Richard will also teach you some fun techniques to confidently overcome the daunting ‘blank canvas’! \nDay 2 \nDuring Day 2 you will learn how to use layers of materials\, either paint or collage to create colour and formvto represent your muse. Richard will help you improve your knowledge of techniques and will give you tips to enhance your skills. Both days are all about developing your enthusiasm\, creativity\, confidence and skills within painting and drawing. Get lost in your work and enjoy having space and time for yourself. With Richard’s gentle tuition and encouragement when you want or need it. \nAll materials are included in the cost of the workshop. This is a once in a summer experience and not one to be missed! \nYou will need to bring \n\na photograph of your portrait muse (preferably also printed on to an A4 sheet of paper)\nyour lunch\nyour creativity!\n\nYou will  \n\ndevelop confidence in your creativity\nlearn new artistic skills\nenjoy spending time with like minded people\ngain confidence in your artistic skills\nlearn how to make your own canvas\n\nThis workshop is aimed at all creatives aged 16 and over who are looking to enhance their skills in art. This is a perfect workshop for those individuals who are starting an art qualification in September.
