Sometimes the table at home just isn’t big enough for large projects that need a flat surface. Whether it’s layering a quilt\, cutting out a garment pattern or planning and drafting your own pattern\, we have the answer here at Bugweed’s! \nRent a table for 2\, 4 or 6 hours on specific days and make use of our large tables. There are 5 spaces for each day to make sure you get lots of table space. \nPlease note\, there is no tutoring with this session. Our staff will be busy in the shop and although we are always happy to help our community\, we will only be able to answer quick questions and make sure you have a cuppa!

Use one of our fabulous charm packs and a contrasting plain to create a delicate block\, full of detail. \nPlease note this is will be repeated on the July BOTM. Please refrain from attending both sessions\, thank you! \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\n5″ Charm pack or 5” squares\n1.5m of plain fabric\nThread\nGlue pen\nRuler\n28mm rotary cutter\n1/4” foot or capability to move needle on your machine to 1/4” (ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY)\nfabric marking pen\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners however\, you do not need to have any experience of quilting. DESCRIPTION:This is a 6 week workshop\, with one session each week. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nWelcome to our first Beginners Quilting workshop with Helene. If you have looked at beautiful quilts and thought how lovely it would be if you could make them too then this is your chance to learn. Helene will slowly guide you through all aspects of quilting\, from choosing colours and patterns to binding and finishing your quilt off. This is not a learning to quilt race\, it is a relaxed quilting stroll! You even get a free “Space to Craft’ session at Bugweed’s for 6 hours\, usually costing £14 which means you can come and spend time consolidating your learning and take some will earned ‘me time’! \nI wish I could quilt! \nEach week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your quilt\, skills and confidence will bloom! \nWeek 1 \nFabric choices\, layout of colours\, piecing squares in pairs and then into a block of 4. \nWeek 2 \nOrganising blocks and sewing blocks together. \nWeek 3 \nAdding borders\, choosing a backing fabric and basting with 505 spray. \nWeek 4 \nQuilting using straight lines 1/4in from the ditch or diagonal lines. \nWeek 5 \nMake and attach the binding. \nWeek 6 \nHand sew the binding down\, finish off your quilt and even have chance to make a label for it! \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nSewing machine\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\n\nWhat is included? \n\n5 fat quarters of quilting cotton\nbatting (wadding) for your quilt\nthread\none free ‘Space to Craft’ day at Bugweed’s usually costing £14\n10% off all purchases in the shop for your quilt\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. Helene loves quilting with a passion and can be found at her beloved Bernina sewing machine on an evening and weekend. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts\, bags and other hand made items. Use up some of your scrap stash or treat yourself to some fat quarters and a contrasting plain to create a stunning block! \nPlease note this is the repeat of the September BOTM. Please refrain from attending both sessions\, thank you! \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nTemplate for Double Wedding Ring (please ask for more details if needed)\nFabric scraps at least 3″ square for pieced rings\nFat quarter of contrasting fabric if doing plain rings rather than pieced rings\n0.5m background fabric\nThread\n28mm rotary cutter\n1/4” foot or capability to move needle on your machine to 1/4” (ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY)\nfabric marking pen\n\nA nice to have- \n\nRotating cutting mat – can be ordered from Bugweed’s in advance!\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for intermediate quilters. Whether you are a master or a complete beginner with this shape\, you will have a fabulous day with Helen and sew the most beautiful block! \nYou will be using a quilting ruler with a 60 degree marking on it to explore cutting\, piecing and quilting this versatile shape. DESCRIPTION:This is a 4 week hand stitching journey\, with one session each week. It is made up of one hour directed teaching with our tutor\, Helene and then the following hour being self directed sewing time. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nSlow down\, stitch by stitch\, and discover the quiet joy of English Paper Piecing. \nSlow Down & Quilt \nThis four-week course is designed for anyone who wants to learn the timeless art of hand-pieced patchwork. Whether you are completely new to quilting or looking to expand your skills\, you’ll learn the foundations of English Paper Piecing (EPP) and create your own beautiful Granny’s Garden arrangement of hexagons. \nWe will begin with simple plain fabrics to build confidence and accuracy\, then gradually move into the magic of fussy cutting – where fabric motifs align to create stunning kaleidoscope effects. DESCRIPTION:This is a 5 week workshop\, with one session each week. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nWelcome to our Beginners Quilting workshop with Helene. If you have looked at beautiful quilts and thought how lovely it would be if you could make them too then this is your chance to learn. Helene will slowly guide you through all aspects of quilting\, from choosing colours and patterns to binding and finishing your quilt off. This is not a learning to quilt race\, it is a relaxed quilting stroll! You even get a free “Space to Craft’ session at Bugweed’s for 6 hours\, usually costing £14 which means you can come and spend time consolidating your learning and take some will earned ‘me time’! \nI wish I could quilt! \nThis course has previously run over 6 weeks\, but we’ve now condensed it into 5 sessions while extending some of the class times. This means you’ll still receive the same amount of teaching time overall. \nEach week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your quilt\, skills and confidence will bloom! \nWeek 1     10.30am – 1.30pm \nFabric choices\, layout of colours\, piecing squares in pairs and then rows. \nWeek 2    10.30am – 12.30pm \nOrganising your rows and sewing them together to create your quilt top. Begin thinking about binding choices\, make binding. \nWeek 3     10.30am – 12.30pm \nAdding borders\, choosing a backing fabric and basting your quilt layers with 505 spray. \nWeek 4     10.30am – 12.30pm \nQuilting using straight lines 1/4in from the ditch or diagonal lines. \nWeek 5       10.30am – 1.30pm \nHand sewing the binding down\, finishing your quilt\, and even having time to add a personalised label. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nSewing machine\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\n\nWhat is included? \n\n5 fat quarters of quilting cotton\nbatting (wadding) for your quilt\nthread\none free ‘Space to Craft’ day at Bugweed’s usually costing £14\n10% off all purchases in the shop for your quilt\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. Helene loves quilting with a passion and can be found at her beloved Bernina sewing machine on an evening and weekend. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts\, bags and other hand made items. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners however\, you do not need to have any experience of quilting. \nAbout our tutor \nHelene is not only an all round fabulous person but also a fabulous quilter! She has many years of teaching little people in school and so has the patience of a saint\, which makes teaching quilting to us adults a breeze!
