SUMMARY:Crocheting in the round with flowers
DESCRIPTION:Join Steffi and learn how to crochet in the round! \nThis class is a great introduction to crocheting in the round for floral motifs. It’s for those who already have a grasp on some basic crochet stitches and want to elevate their skills to intermediate level. \nStarting off with a floral mandala\, students will conquer the magic ring and learn about standing stitches and invisible slip stitch for seamless finishes to rounds\, then try out some more advanced stitches like popcorn and cluster stitch. Afterwards\, students will progress onto other flowers with layered petals and crab stitch edging. \nLight refreshments (drinks and biscuits) are included. Two x 25g balls of yarn are included in the price of the workshop. It is recommended you will need a minimum of 4 x 25g balls but you can choose to include more. A selection of colours will be available for you to pick from at the workshop for an additional charge payable on the day. \nChildren ages 14+ are welcome to attend. They must be accompanied by an adult. If both adult and child would like to participate in the workshop please purchase two tickets. DESCRIPTION:A wonderful way to start off the year. This month Helen will show you how to create the strip heart block.  \nYou can choose to create either an  8″ or  jumbo 18″ block. You can use the jumbo one to make a lovely cushion cover or the start of a super fast growing quilt! \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners however\, you do not need to have any experience of quilting. You must have a 1/4″ foot or the ability to move your needle to the 1/4″ seam allowance \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nSewing machine and neutral thread\n 3 fat quarters of tonal colours( plains or small prints)\n1 fat quarter of plain contrasting  back ground fabric\nYou must have a 1/4″ foot or the ability to move your needle to the 1/4″ seam allowance\nFabric marking pen\nRuler\nRotary cutter\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. SUMMARY:Sewing School: Making a bodywarmer with inseam and patch pockets
DESCRIPTION:Please note this is a two part workshop. Part 1 will take place on Saturday 13th January 1:30-4pm and part 2 Saturday 10th February 10:30-3:30pm. Payment covers both sessions. \nPart 1 Saturday 13th January 1:30-4pm \nThe pattern we will be using is The Fibre Mood Gabriela Bodywarmer. Please click here to view the pattern. \n\nIn this session we will accurately take our body measurements to determine what size or sizes we will need to use with the dressmaking pattern. We will then prepare our pattern and cut out our fabric\, transferring all pattern markings and finishing the raw edges with an overlocker. This means we will be ready to sew our bodywarmer in the next session. \n\n\nThe size range is approximately UK 6-28 please use your body measurements compared to the sizing on the pattern\, do not use your ready to wear size to estimate the size needed on the pattern as they can vary significantly. \nMinor fitting issues such as grading between a couple of sizes\, or lengthening/shortening can be dealt with\, but fitting issue requiring more complex adjustments will not be possible in the time constraints of this session. If you typically experience fitting issues with ready to wear garments\, you should expect that you will need to adjust dressmaking patterns and the adjustments very much depend on the specific fitting issue. \nPart 2 Saturday 10th February 10:30-3:30pm \n\nIn this session we will make our bodywarmer with patch pockets and adding additional in seam pockets. DESCRIPTION:Make your own unique wool painting! \nJoin our experienced tutor Katy who will guide through the wet felting process\, helping you produce a unique piece of artwork\, also known as ‘wool painting’. \nThis workshop is for children aged 8 and above. Parents/carers will need to stay with the children. \nWhat do I need to bring? \nNothing\, all materials and equipment will be provided. \nPrevious experience required \nNo previous experience needed. This workshop is suitable for beginners. \nOur tutor Katy \nKaty works mainly with Merino wool\, using felting and embroidery to create landscape stories. Changing skies\, seasons and rural scenes inspire her beautiful pictures. She also makes wearable accessories and clothing using the same felting techniques. Katy has exhibited her work for some years and can be found at local artisan fairs and exhibitions.  She is a member of the International Feltmakers Association. \nKaty was an Art & Textiles teacher in Secondary schools across North and West Yorkshire for 24 years. She has taught all ages and abilities from 11 – 18 years. This breadth of experience means she is well suited to teach workshops. \n

During this time\, I completed part time courses in embroidery and fashion design. I’ve co-authored two textiles books for students and provided training sessions for textile teachers. A wide range of different textile techniques inspire my work. Currently I’m enjoying producing experimental woven fabrics on an ancient 4 shaft floor loom. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Sewing School: Making a button fastening shirt
DESCRIPTION:Please note this is a two part workshop. Part 1 will take place on Saturday 11th November 1:30-4pm and part 2 Saturday 9th December 10:30-3:30pm. Payment covers both sessions. \nPart 1 Saturday 11th November 1:30-4pm \n\nThe pattern we will be using is The Assembly Line Cap Sleeve Shirt. Please click here to view the pattern. \nIn this session we will accurately take our body measurements to determine what size or sizes we will need to use with the dressmaking pattern. We will then prepare our pattern and cut out our fabric\, transferring all pattern markings and finishing the raw edges with an overlocker. This means we will be ready to sew our shirt in the next session. \nThe size range is approximately UK 8-30 – please use your body measurements compared to the sizing on the pattern\, do not use your ready to wear size to estimate the size needed on the pattern as they can vary significantly. \n\n\nMinor fitting issues such as grading between a couple of sizes\, or lengthening/shortening can be dealt with\, but fitting issue requiring more complex adjustments will not be possible in the time constraints of this session. If you typically experience fitting issues with ready to wear garments\, you should expect that you will need to adjust dressmaking patterns and the adjustments very much depend on the specific fitting issue. \nPart 2 Saturday 9th December 10:30-3:30pm \n\nIn this session we will make our button fronted shirt. This is a timeless shirt that’s easy to style and wear. It has a wide\, straight-cut shape and features grown-on sleeves with a folded cuff and a standing straight collar. \n\n\nMinor fitting issues such as grading between a couple of sizes\, or lengthening/shortening can be dealt with\, but fitting issue requiring more complex adjustments will not be possible in the time constraints of this session. If you typically experience fitting issues with ready to wear garments\, you should expect that you will need to adjust dressmaking patterns and the adjustments very much depend on the specific fitting issue. \n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience for both sessions \nYou need to have good basic knowledge of a sewing machine and be able to sew a straight stitch and a buttonhole. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners. \nYou also need a basic understanding of using a dressmaking pattern. Payment covers both sessions. \nPart 1 \nYou will draft your own pattern pieces based on your own measurements. \n\nIn this session you will draft your own pattern for a gathered skirt with either an elasticated or fitted waistband. You will create the required pattern pieces using your own body measurements\, adding ease and seam allowances. You will have the option of adding an additional gathered tier and pockets to your skirt. \n\nAll internal seams will be finished with pinking shears. \nWhat do you need to bring? \nEverything will be provided for part 1 but do check below for details of what you need for part 2. \nPart 2 \nYou will sew your skirt using the pattern pieces you drafted in part 1. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nYour sewing machine and instruction book. If you need to borrow a machine let us know when booking.\nFabric – this will depend on your measurements and the style choices you want to use on your skirt. A rough guide is the length you would like your skirt to be\, plus 30cm multiplied by two e.g.: A skirt length of 70cm\, plus 30cm = 1 metre\, multiplied by two = 2 metres of fabric.\nRecommended fabric: Light- to medium-weight woven fabrics\, such as linen\, double gauze\, chambray\, cotton lawn\nMatching thread\nIf you would like an elasticated waistband\, then you will need a length of fabric and elastic in your desired width that fits your waist.\nIf you would like a fitted waistband\, you will need a zip at least 20cms long and a small amount of interfacing in a weight to suit your fabric\n\nIf you need to purchase any supplies for this workshop contact our sister company Bugweed’s Fabrics. You should be comfortable using a sewing machine\, understand how to wind and insert a bobbin\, thread a machine\, sew a straight stitch\, change a foot and a needle. \nOur tutor Amanda \nI studied textile design at university and worked as a textiles teacher in secondary education for over 30 years. During this time\, I completed part time courses in embroidery and fashion design. I’ve co-authored two textiles books for students and provided training sessions for textile teachers. A wide range of different textile techniques inspire my work. Currently I’m enjoying producing experimental woven fabrics on an ancient 4 shaft floor loom.
