This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners however\, you do not need to have any experience of quilting. SUMMARY:Create a Seascape using Recycled Fabrics
DESCRIPTION:You will learn new skills to help create a seascape using recycled fabrics. \nThroughout the day you will be introduced to blending and layering techniques to build up the seascape based on a given image to work from. You will be guided through each step with a range of demos\, individual practical work and personal feedback. We will discuss use of pattern to add perspective and composition to draw the eye into the artwork. \nAt the end of the day you will have a finished or near finished piece to take home where you can embellish and add those finishing touches. We will also discuss how to embellish and how to present you work to hang on the wall. \nWhat do you need to bring? \nYour sewing machine which must have a free machine embroidery foot. Please can we ask everyone to test this prior to attending the workshop. \nThread in ‘seascape’ colours \nFabric scissors\, pen\, pencil and a 30cm ruler (optional\, you are welcome to borrow ours) \nFeel free to bring your own ‘stash’ of fabrics which you feel may be suitable for your piece. This is optional but some people like to bring a keepsake or treasured fabric to incorporate into the work (optional) \nPrevious experience required  \nYou will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners however\, you do not need to have any experience of free machine embroidery. \nAbout our tutor \nI am a mixed media and textile artist living in the Howardian Hills where I take much of my inspiration as well as the North of England. I work mainly in recycled fabrics and love to depict the local landscapes\, seascapes and woodlands. I see the landscape in patterns and use this to add perspective to my work as well as layering and blending techniques. \nI exhibit and teach in a number of locations and took part in Landscape Artist of the Year 2022 on Sky Arts.

DESCRIPTION:Make your own unique wool painting! \nJoin our experienced tutor Katy who will guide through the wet felting process\, helping you produce a unique piece of artwork\, also known as ‘wool painting’. \nWhat do I need to bring? \nNothing\, all materials and equipment will be provided. \nPrevious experience required \nNo previous experience needed. This workshop is suitable for beginners. \nOur tutor Katy \nKaty works mainly with Merino wool\, using felting and embroidery to create landscape stories. Changing skies\, seasons and rural scenes inspire her beautiful pictures. She also makes wearable accessories and clothing using the same felting techniques. Katy has exhibited her work for some years and can be found at local artisan fairs and exhibitions.  She is a member of the International Feltmakers Association. \nKaty was an Art & Textiles teacher in Secondary schools across North and West Yorkshire for 24 years. She has taught all ages and abilities from 11 – 18 years. This breadth of experience means she is well suited to teach workshops. \n

SUMMARY:Visible mending workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Amanda to learn how to repair a hole in clothing using a visible mending technique. \nParticipants will learn how to make a decorative patch of weaving on a sample of denim fabric. Exploration of\ncolour and weave to create a unique patterned piece. You may not finish the whole piece during the workshop but you will have been taught the skills to complete it in your own time. \nWhat do I need to bring? \nNothing\, all materials and equipment will be provided. \nPrevious experience required \nYou should have some previous experience of embroidery. You should be able to thread an embroidery needle and do some stitches such as straight stitch\, running stitch and back stitch. If you attended our ‘Colour into weave’ workshop this will be a great starting point for you. \nOur tutor Amanda \nI studied textile design at university and worked as a textiles teacher in secondary education for over 30 years. During this time\, I completed part time courses in embroidery and fashion design. I’ve co-authored two textiles books for students and provided training sessions for textile teachers. A wide range of different textile techniques inspire my work. Currently I’m enjoying producing experimental woven fabrics on an ancient 4 shaft floor loom.

SUMMARY:Sewing School: Making trousers with an elasticated waist in the back
DESCRIPTION:Please note this is a two part workshop. Part 1 will take place on Saturday 9th March 1:30-4pm and part 2 Saturday 13th April 10:30-3:30pm. Payment covers both sessions. \nPart 1 Saturday 9th March 1:30-4pm \nThe pattern we will be using is The Closet Core Pietra. Please click here to view the pattern. The pdf pattern comes in 2 size options. Please let us know which size you would like when booking. \n\nIn this session we will accurately take our body measurements to determine what size or sizes we will need to use with the dressmaking pattern. We will then prepare our pattern and cut out our fabric\, transferring all pattern markings and finishing the raw edges with an overlocker. This means we will be ready to sew our trousers in the next session. \n\n\nThe size range is approximately UK 6-30 please use your body measurements compared to the sizing on the pattern\, do not use your ready to wear size to estimate the size needed on the pattern as they can vary significantly. \nMinor fitting issues such as grading between a couple of sizes\, or lengthening/shortening can be dealt with\, but fitting issue requiring more complex adjustments will not be possible in the time constraints of this session. If you typically experience fitting issues with ready to wear garments\, you should expect that you will need to adjust dressmaking patterns and the adjustments very much depend on the specific fitting issue. \nPart 2 Saturday 13th April 10:30-3:30pm \n\n\nIn this session we make our trousers with an elasticated waist in the back. All internal seams and raw edges will be overlocked. \n\n\nMinor fitting issues such as grading between a couple of sizes\, or lengthening/shortening can be dealt with\, but fitting issue requiring more complex adjustments will not be possible in the time constraints of this session. SUMMARY:Knitting for beginners part 2
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop we will use our new knitting skills to learn to make fingerless mittens. We will cover reading a simple pattern\, try our first increases and decreases and learn how to finish off our projects. If you are confident with the basic knit stitch and know how to cast on and off\, this is suitable for you.\n\nChildren and adults are welcome to attend as long as they have the relevant previous experience (see below). Children will need to be accompanied by an adult. If both adult and child would like to take part in the workshop please purchase a ticket each. If only the child wishes to take part please purchase 1 ticket.\n\nWhat do I need to bring?\nPlease bring either 4mm needles and DK yarn OR 5mm needles and Aran yarn\n100g of either DK or aran yarn will be fine for this project\n\nPrevious experience required?\nAimed at anyone who has the very basic knitting skills above in place. You should be confident with the basic knit stitch and know how to cast on and off.\n\nAbout our tutor\nCatherine learnt to knit as a new mum\, desperate for something to do where she could see progress. It worked\, and a decade on she still loves the ability to create fabric out of yarn\, to play with colour\, texture and pattern\, and to fit garments to bodies of any shape and size. She has published several knitting patterns of her own and also enjoys spinning her own yarn.

DESCRIPTION:Join Steffi and learn how to create your very own micro crochet jewellery! \nThis class is a great introduction to learn to crochet dainty pieces. Start with making a leaf bracelet with beads\, then conquer the magic ring through making a pair of heart earrings! \nYou will be exploring two hook sizes\, 1.25mm and 0.9mm to see which suits you best. \nAll materials and light refreshments (drinks and biscuits) are included. \nChildren ages 14+ are welcome to attend. They must be accompanied by an adult. If both adult and child would like to participate in the workshop please purchase two tickets. If only the child wishes to take part please purchase 1 ticket. \nLeft or right handed\, everyone is welcome. \nWhat do you need to bring? \nNothing for the workshop\, everything will be provided. \nThere will be a half hour break for lunch so feel free to bring some with you. \nRequired  knowledge/experience \nSuitable for advanced beginners. You need to know how to basic crochet stitches\, chain stitches\, double crochet and treble crochet stitches. \nAbout our tutor \nSteffi Graves is a designer/maker specialising in micro crochet and jewellery making. She sells her finished work and crochet patterns on Etsy and has had her work featured in various magazines including Simply Crochet and Landscape Magazine. She is the author of 100 Micro Crochet Motifs and more recently 100 Micro Amigurumi.

DESCRIPTION:This month Helen will show you how to create an 8 point star using foundation paper piecing.  \nIt is a simple but effective star using foundation paper piecing. \nGreat for advanced or beginners. \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners however\, you do not need to have any experience of quilting. You must have a 1/4″ foot or the ability to move your needle to the 1/4″ seam allowance \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nSewing machine and neutral thread\n 2 fat quarters for the star\n1 fat quarter for the background (lighter colour)\nYou must have a 1/4″ foot or the ability to move your needle to the 1/4″ seam allowance\nFabric marking pen\nRuler\nRotary cutter\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting.
