We are so excited to bring you a complete beginners sock-knitting course where you will have chance to really master your skills. \nSocks can look intimidating\, but they don’t have to be. \nJoin us for a relaxed\, supportive 3 week sock-knitting course designed for sock beginners\, rusty knitters and anyone who’s ever felt stuck with those double-pointed needles or turning heels. Running every other Saturday\, this course breaks down the process into clear manageable steps so you can build confidence\, learn essential techniques and finish with a beautiful handmade sock! \nDon’t rush to learn and fail\, come and take your time; ask questions and practice your skills. \nAcross the three sessions\, you’ll learn everything from a stretchy cast-on and turning heels to shaping the toe\, with plenty of guidance\, demonstrations\, and time to practice in a friendly environment with lots of tea and biscuits! \nWeek 1  \nLearn the stretchy Norwegian cast-on\, perfect for socks. Create the ribbed cuff. Start knitting the leg of the sock. Get comfy using DPNs and other sock knitting treats! \nWeek 2 \nStep-by-step guidance to knit the heel flap and turning the heel. Pick up stitches and create the gusset. Begin to knit the foot of the sock. \nWeek 3 \nShape the toe. Learn how to finish off the sock and use garter stitch. Recap and start on the second sock if you have time! learn some extra tips\, tricks and troubleshooting. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\nGlasses if you need them!\nYour choice of any 4ply sock knitting yarn (Remember you can buy them in store!)\n\nWhat is included? \n\na set of 3.25mm Knit Pro Zing Double Pointed Needles (DPNs)\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for improving beginners to knitting. \nAbout our tutor \nEleanor has been part of our team for a couple of years and is a super all round crafter! Knitting is one of her many textile passions and she confidently tackles a whole range of tricky knitting patterns. She is studying pattern design at University and is looking forward to a career in the fashion industry. Eleanor is patient with all learners and is highly skilled at explaining tricky techniques.

DESCRIPTION:Please note this is a three part workshop. \nPart 1 Thursday 5th March 6.30pm – 9pm \nPart 2 Thursday 12th March 6.30pm – 9pm \nPart 3 Thursday 19th March 6.30pm – 9pm \nOne payment covers all sessions. \nPart 1 Thursday 5th March 6.30pm – 9pm \nThe first session of this Brilliant Beginners sewing course will focus on the basic features of your sewing machine. Catie will guide you through the construction of an envelope style cushion cover. This will give you a chance to remind yourself about changing stitches and stitch length\, turning corners\, seam allowances and other important skills and sewing knowledge. \n\nPart 2 Thursday 12th March 6.30pm – 9pm \n\n\n\nIn this session you will be starting the prep for making pj bottoms. Catie will explain each stage throughout the process\, learning how to read a garment pattern correctly as you go. You will accurately take our body measurements to determine what size pattern to use\, cut out the pattern and fabric and then transfer all pattern markings on to the fabric. \n\nIf patterns need to be lengthened/shortened this can easily be can be dealt with! \n\n\n\n\n\nPart 3 Thursday 19th March 6.30pm – 9pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this session you will be sewing the pj bottoms. Catie will help you gain confidence with your sewing machine to join fabrics\, follow pattern instructions and construct a simple garment. The pj bottoms will be finished and hemmed ready for wearing! \n\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience for both sessions \nYou need to be able to turn on your sewing machine and sew a straight stitch! \nIt would be helpful if you are familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle. This session is suitable for sewing machine beginners\, eager to start their sewing journey. \n\n\nWhat will you need to bring for both sessions? \n\nYour sewing machine and instruction book\nEnthusiasm!\n\n\nMachines are available to hire so please let us know if you would like to use one of our machines.

DESCRIPTION:Join the wonderful  Steffi Glaves at Bugweed’s for the first workshop suitable for the beginner crocheter. \nThis is the easier-than-it-looks flower brooch that is suitable for beginners so come along and enjoy! In this project you will conquer the magic ring and use basic crochet stitches to create a flower with pretty layered petals. Steffi will guide you through the steps and be always on hand for help and advice. \nYou will be using a 3mm hook and DK cotton\, which will be provided\, along with brooch backs and buttons. Stitches used in this project are chains\, slip stitches\, double crochet and treble crochet (UK terms). \nLight refreshments are included. \nLeft or right handed\, everyone is welcome! \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nyour glasses if you need them!!\npatience\nenthusiasm\n\nRequired  knowledge/experience \nSuitable for beginners. You need to have a basic knowledge of how to make a chain but simple stitches will be recapped in the session. Please see above for stitches that will be used in the project. \nAbout our tutor \nSteffi Glaves is a wonderful human being as well as a designer & maker\, specialising in micro crochet and jewellery making. She sells her finished work and crochet patterns on Etsy and has had her work featured in various magazines including Simply Crochet and Landscape Magazine. Steffi is the author of 2 books\, which will be available to purchase on the evening. Both 100 Micro Crochet Motifs and 100 Micro Amigurumi have been a great success both in the UK and further afield.

It is made up of one hour directed teaching with our tutor\, Helene and then the following hour being self directed sewing time. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nSlow down\, stitch by stitch\, and discover the quiet joy of English Paper Piecing. \nSlow Down & Quilt \nThis four-week course is designed for anyone who wants to learn the timeless art of hand-pieced patchwork. Whether you are completely new to quilting or looking to expand your skills\, you’ll learn the foundations of English Paper Piecing (EPP) and create your own beautiful Granny’s Garden arrangement of hexagons. \nWe will begin with simple plain fabrics to build confidence and accuracy\, then gradually move into the magic of fussy cutting – where fabric motifs align to create stunning kaleidoscope effects. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts\, bags and other hand made items. DESCRIPTION:It’s back! Your favourite monthly quilting workshop! Block Of The Month returns for February and March with the 60 degree triangle. Whether you are a master or a complete beginner with this shape\, you will have a fabulous day with Helen and sew the most beautiful block! \nYou will be using a quilting ruler with a 60 degree marking on it to explore cutting\, piecing and quilting this versatile shape. The block can also be easily turned into a table runner. \nThis workshop is repeated in March so please DO NOT book on to both\, places are limited! \nOur Block Of The Month\, BOTM\, sessions are full of support and friendship and we welcome both newcomers and regulars. This is the only time this workshop will run this year. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nx5 contrasting Width Of Fabric pieces at least 25cm of each (Please use 100% cotton)\nquilting ruler with 60 degree marking\nmatching thread\nrotary cutter\ncutting mat\n1/4” foot or capability to move needle on your machine to 1/4” (ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY)\noptional – 0.5m backing fabric and batting for a table runner\n\nWhat is included? \n\nrefreshments (please bring your own lunch)\ntutoring\nfriendship!\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for all intermediate quilters. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Skills Sessions of Bugweed’s Sewing School with Hannah. In this session you will become more proficient in sewing invisible or concealed zips. These can be a challenge for the best of sewists at the first time of sewing them but have faith\, Hannah will share her hints and tips on handling these clever zips. There will be time to ask questions and lots of practicing your sewing skills. \nPlease note\, this is Part 2 of 2 zip workshops. Part 1 covers standard zips. The workshops are stand alone and are paid for separately. \nRequired sewing knowledge and experience \nA good basic knowledge of a sewing machine and be able to sew a straight stitch. Attendees need to be familiar with loading a bobbin\, changing a needle and changing the foot on their sewing machine. \nThis session is not suitable for absolute beginners that haven’t got experience of using a sewing machine or sewing fabric together. Please see our Brilliant Beginners workshops for more help with starting using your sewing machine. \nFabric and tool requirements \nPlease bring your own sewing machine and supplies with you. You will need to have an invisible zipper foot\, marking tools (preferably a heat erasable pen) and thread in 2 colours\, contrasting thread to be used in the bobbin. \nEverything else you will need will be provided for the workshop.

DESCRIPTION:This is a 6 week workshop\, with one session each week. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nWelcome to our first Beginners Quilting workshop with Helene. If you have looked at beautiful quilts and thought how lovely it would be if you could make them too then this is your chance to learn. Helene will slowly guide you through all aspects of quilting\, from choosing colours and patterns to binding and finishing your quilt off. This is not a learning to quilt race\, it is a relaxed quilting stroll! You even get a free “Space to Craft’ session at Bugweed’s for 6 hours\, usually costing £14 which means you can come and spend time consolidating your learning and take some will earned ‘me time’! \nI wish I could quilt! \nEach week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your quilt\, skills and confidence will bloom! \nWeek 1 \nFabric choices\, layout of colours\, piecing squares in pairs and then into a block of 4. \nWeek 2 \nOrganising blocks and sewing blocks together. \nWeek 3 \nAdding borders\, choosing a backing fabric and basting with 505 spray. \nWeek 4 \nQuilting using straight lines 1/4in from the ditch or diagonal lines. \nWeek 5 \nMake and attach the binding. \nWeek 6 \nHand sew the binding down\, finish off your quilt and even have chance to make a label for it! \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nSewing machine\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\n\nWhat is included? \n\n5 fat quarters of quilting cotton\nbatting (wadding) for your quilt\nthread\none free ‘Space to Craft’ day at Bugweed’s usually costing £14\n10% off all purchases in the shop for your quilt\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners however\, you do not need to have any experience of quilting. \nAbout our tutor \nHelene is not only an all round fabulous person but also a fabulous quilter! She has many years of teaching little people in school and so has the patience of a saint\, which makes teaching quilting to us adults a breeze! Helene loves quilting with a passion and can be found at her beloved Bernina sewing machine on an evening and weekend. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts\, bags and other hand made items. Helene is very understanding of people’s individual needs and ways of learning so if you have any worries\, concerns or questions about the workshops please just ask.

Come and learn essential skills and techniques for different knitting projects and make some items on the way! \nDon’t rush to learn and fail\, come and take your time; ask questions and practice your skills. \nEach week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your knitting sills and confidence will bloom! \nJanuary \nCast on techniques and learn the knit stitch. Start knitting your dishcloth using garter stitch and acrylic yarn. \nFebruary \nPractice your knit stitch and learn how to cast off. Complete your dishcloth. \nMarch \nAdd a pearl stitch to the knit and learn how to knit and pearl. Practice stocking stitch. \nApril \nLearn how to increase and decrease your stitches in knitting including ‘make 1’. \nMay \nUnderstand how to knit a rib\, use stitch markers and begin to read patterns. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Skills Sessions of Bugweed’s Sewing School with Hannah. In this session you will become more proficient in sewing standard zips. Hannah will share her hints and tips on handling zips\, including inserting and shortening standard zips. Zips can be a real nightmare and sewists often tell us about there experiences of fighting with them when inserting them or even avoiding them at all costs! Stop avoiding! Come and join us and begin to love zips! \nPlease note\, this is Part 1 of 2 zip workshops. Part 2 covers concealed or invisible zips. The workshops are stand alone and are paid for separately. \nRequired sewing knowledge and experience \nA good basic knowledge of a sewing machine and be able to sew a straight stitch. Attendees need to be familiar with loading a bobbin\, changing a needle and changing the foot on their sewing machine. \nThis session is not suitable for absolute beginners that haven’t got experience of using a sewing machine or sewing fabric together. Please see our Brilliant Beginners workshops for more help with starting using your sewing machine. \nFabric and tool requirements \nPlease bring your own sewing machine and supplies with you. You will need to have a zipper foot\, marking tools (preferably a heat erasable pen) and thread in 2 colours\, contrasting thread to be used in the bobbin. \nEverything else you will need will be provided for the workshop.

DESCRIPTION:This club is a series of 12 workshops. It is not necessary to attend each one but some projects will span 2 workshops. Please read the details of each workshop.  \nWelcome to Bugweed’s Knitting Club! It’s time to get knitting mastered with our carefully designed series of 12 workshops to help you learn all the skills you will need to be a successful confident knitter. \nEmma and Sue\, our tutors with oceans of knowledge\, are ready to guide you through every stage from casting on to working in 3d. Come and learn essential skills and techniques for different knitting projects and make some items on the way! \nDon’t rush to learn and fail\, come and take your time; ask questions and practice your skills. \nEach week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your knitting sills and confidence will bloom! \nJanuary \nCast on techniques and learn the knit stitch. Start knitting your dishcloth using garter stitch and acrylic yarn. \nFebruary \nPractice your knit stitch and learn how to cast off. Complete your dishcloth. \nMarch \nAdd a pearl stitch to the knit and learn how to knit and pearl. Practice stocking stitch. \nApril \nLearn how to increase and decrease your stitches in knitting including ‘make 1’. \nMay \nUnderstand how to knit a rib\, use stitch markers and begin to read patterns. Start to knit some hand warmers. \nJune \nContinue to practice your skills by knitting hand warmers. Learn the basics of sewing up and complete your hand warmer. \nJuly \nExplore and learn all about different yarns\, various weights and how to accurately substitute yarns in patterns. \nAugust \nBegin to tackle knitting in the round and learn about circular needles. Start to knit a cowl using wool based yarn. \nSeptember \nContinue to master knitting in the round on circular needles and learn all about blocking; how and why you block. \nOctober \nLearn how to change yarn colour when knitting. \nNovember \nBegin to understand techniques in knitting in 3d. Start your Christmas decorations! \nDecember \nContinue to learn about knitting in 3d and complete your decoration. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\nGlasses if you need them!\n\nWhat is included? \n\nStraight knitting needles\nacrylic yarn\nall patterns required\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for complete beginners to knitting. \nAbout our tutor \nEmma and Sue are both members of the Bugweed’s team and have much experience in knitting. They both enjoy knitting a wide variety of projects using different yarns.  Emma loves to knit and crochet shawls and Sue can often be found knitting up a jumper for her grandchildren! They are kind\, caring and patient\, making them the perfect tutors for our very beginners knitting club!

DESCRIPTION:It’s time for workshop 2 of our beginners crochet classes with our very own Sophie\, AKA Campeycrafts on Instagram. In these three sessions\, Sophie will help you build on the crochet foundations you already have and continue to develop your confidence mastering the classic granny square pattern and then make a bag using the techniques you have learned. \nSophie will help you conquer a magic circle\, the basis of so many crochet patterns! In the following two sessions\, you will then learn how to change colours and yarns\, she will help you join your granny squares\, crochet a button hole and then complete your bag. The bag will be made in a cotton yarn and lots of different colours will be available. \nYarn\, hook and light refreshments are included.  \nLeft or right handed\, everyone is welcome from age 14 upwards. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\npatience\nyour glasses if you need them!\nenthusiasm\n\nRequired  knowledge/experience \nSuitable for beginners! You should be able to make some basic crochet stitches as this will help with focusing on the new skill of the magic circle. \nAbout our tutor \nSophie has been with us at Bugweed’s for over 6 months and is an avid crocheter. She has her own instagram page where she posts her makes and enjoys making toys\, jumpers and cardigans.
