SUMMARY:I wish I could quilt! Beginners Quilting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is a 6 week workshop\, with one session each week. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nWelcome to our first Beginners Quilting workshop with Helene. If you have looked at beautiful quilts and thought how lovely it would be if you could make them too then this is your chance to learn. Helene will slowly guide you through all aspects of quilting\, from choosing colours and patterns to binding and finishing your quilt off. This is not a learning to quilt race\, it is a relaxed quilting stroll! You even get a free “Space to Craft’ session at Bugweed’s for 6 hours\, usually costing £14 which means you can come and spend time consolidating your learning and take some will earned ‘me time’! \nI wish I could quilt! \nEach week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your quilt\, skills and confidence will bloom! \nWeek 1 \nFabric choices\, layout of colours\, piecing squares in pairs and then into a block of 4. \nWeek 2 \nOrganising blocks and sewing blocks together. \nWeek 3 \nAdding borders\, choosing a backing fabric and basting with 505 spray. \nWeek 4 \nQuilting using straight lines 1/4in from the ditch or diagonal lines. \nWeek 5 \nMake and attach the binding. \nWeek 6 \nHand sew the binding down\, finish off your quilt and even have chance to make a label for it! \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nSewing machine\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\n\nWhat is included? \n\n5 fat quarters of quilting cotton\nbatting (wadding) for your quilt\nthread\none free ‘Space to Craft’ day at Bugweed’s usually costing £14\n10% off all purchases in the shop for your quilt\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners however\, you do not need to have any experience of quilting. \nAbout our tutor \nHelene is not only an all round fabulous person but also a fabulous quilter! She has many years of teaching little people in school and so has the patience of a saint\, which makes teaching quilting to us adults a breeze! Helene loves quilting with a passion and can be found at her beloved Bernina sewing machine on an evening and weekend. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts\, bags and other hand made items. Helene is very understanding of people’s individual needs and ways of learning so if you have any worries\, concerns or questions about the workshops please just ask.

DESCRIPTION:It’s back! Your favourite monthly quilting workshop! Block Of The Month returns for February and March with the 60 degree triangle. Whether you are a master or a complete beginner with this shape\, you will have a fabulous day with Helen and sew the most beautiful block! \nYou will be using a quilting ruler with a 60 degree marking on it to explore cutting\, piecing and quilting this versatile shape. The block can also be easily turned into a table runner. \nThis workshop is repeated in March so please DO NOT book on to both\, places are limited! \nOur Block Of The Month\, BOTM\, sessions are full of support and friendship and we welcome both newcomers and regulars. This is the only time this workshop will run this year. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nx5 contrasting Width Of Fabric pieces at least 25cm of each (Please use 100% cotton)\nquilting ruler with 60 degree marking\nmatching thread\nrotary cutter\ncutting mat\n1/4” foot or capability to move needle on your machine to 1/4” (ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY)\noptional – 0.5m backing fabric and batting for a table runner\n\nWhat is included? \n\nrefreshments (please bring your own lunch)\ntutoring\nfriendship!\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for all intermediate quilters. Whether you are completely new to quilting or looking to expand your skills\, you’ll learn the foundations of English Paper Piecing (EPP) and create your own beautiful Granny’s Garden arrangement of hexagons. \nWe will begin with simple plain fabrics to build confidence and accuracy\, then gradually move into the magic of fussy cutting – where fabric motifs align to create stunning kaleidoscope effects. DESCRIPTION:Join the wonderful  Steffi Glaves at Bugweed’s for the first workshop suitable for the beginner crocheter. \nThis is the easier-than-it-looks flower brooch that is suitable for beginners so come along and enjoy! In this project you will conquer the magic ring and use basic crochet stitches to create a flower with pretty layered petals. Steffi will guide you through the steps and be always on hand for help and advice. \nYou will be using a 3mm hook and DK cotton\, which will be provided\, along with brooch backs and buttons. Stitches used in this project are chains\, slip stitches\, double crochet and treble crochet (UK terms). \nLight refreshments are included. \nLeft or right handed\, everyone is welcome! \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nyour glasses if you need them!!\npatience\nenthusiasm\n\nRequired  knowledge/experience \nSuitable for beginners. You need to have a basic knowledge of how to make a chain but simple stitches will be recapped in the session. Please see above for stitches that will be used in the project. \nAbout our tutor \nSteffi Glaves is a wonderful human being as well as a designer & maker\, specialising in micro crochet and jewellery making. She sells her finished work and crochet patterns on Etsy and has had her work featured in various magazines including Simply Crochet and Landscape Magazine. Steffi is the author of 2 books\, which will be available to purchase on the evening. Both 100 Micro Crochet Motifs and 100 Micro Amigurumi have been a great success both in the UK and further afield.

DESCRIPTION:Please note this is a three part workshop. \nPart 1 Thursday 5th March 6.30pm – 9pm \nPart 2 Thursday 12th March 6.30pm – 9pm \nPart 3 Thursday 19th March 6.30pm – 9pm \nOne payment covers all sessions. \nPart 1 Thursday 5th March 6.30pm – 9pm \nThe first session of this Brilliant Beginners sewing course will focus on the basic features of your sewing machine. Catie will guide you through the construction of an envelope style cushion cover. This will give you a chance to remind yourself about changing stitches and stitch length\, turning corners\, seam allowances and other important skills and sewing knowledge. \n\nPart 2 Thursday 12th March 6.30pm – 9pm \n\n\n\nIn this session you will be starting the prep for making pj bottoms. Catie will explain each stage throughout the process\, learning how to read a garment pattern correctly as you go. You will accurately take our body measurements to determine what size pattern to use\, cut out the pattern and fabric and then transfer all pattern markings on to the fabric. \n\nIf patterns need to be lengthened/shortened this can easily be can be dealt with! \n\n\n\n\n\nPart 3 Thursday 19th March 6.30pm – 9pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this session you will be sewing the pj bottoms. Catie will help you gain confidence with your sewing machine to join fabrics\, follow pattern instructions and construct a simple garment. The pj bottoms will be finished and hemmed ready for wearing! \n\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience for both sessions \nYou need to be able to turn on your sewing machine and sew a straight stitch! \nIt would be helpful if you are familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle. It’s time to get knitting mastered with our carefully designed series of 12 workshops to help you learn all the skills you will need to be a successful confident knitter. \nEmma and Sue\, our tutors with oceans of knowledge\, are ready to guide you through every stage from casting on to working in 3d. Come and learn essential skills and techniques for different knitting projects and make some items on the way! \nDon’t rush to learn and fail\, come and take your time; ask questions and practice your skills. \nEach month there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your knitting sills and confidence will bloom! \nMarch \nJoin us for a fun and cosy workshop where you’ll create an adorable Easter chick – perfectly sized to snuggle a chocolate cream egg inside! \nUsing a simple\, beginner-friendly pattern\, you’ll learn how to increase and decrease your stitches\, stitch your pieces together\, and build confidence with knit stitch\, casting on\, and casting off. \nIf you’re comfortable casting on and knitting a few rows in knit stitch\, you’re ready to join in. DESCRIPTION:It’s back! Your favourite monthly quilting workshop! Block Of The Month returns for February and March with the 60 degree triangle. Whether you are a master or a complete beginner with this shape\, you will have a fabulous day with Helen and sew the most beautiful block! \nYou will be using a quilting ruler with a 60 degree marking on it to explore cutting\, piecing and quilting this versatile shape. The block can also be easily turned into a table runner. \nThis workshop is a repeat of February so please DO NOT book on to both\, places are limited! \nOur Block Of The Month\, BOTM\, sessions are full of support and friendship and we welcome both newcomers and regulars. This is the only time this workshop will run this year. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nx5 contrasting Width Of Fabric pieces at least 25cm of each (Please use 100% cotton)\nquilting ruler with 60 degree marking\nmatching thread\nrotary cutter\ncutting mat\n1/4” foot or capability to move needle on your machine to 1/4” (ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY)\noptional – 0.5m backing fabric and batting for a table runner\n\nWhat is included? \n\nrefreshments (please bring your own lunch)\ntutoring\nfriendship!\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for all intermediate quilters. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners. You must have a 1/4″ foot or the ability to move your needle to the 1/4″ seam allowance. DESCRIPTION:It’s the Easter holidays and the children are on their break! Do you have a young person who is keen to learn how to use a sewing machine or is keen to begin making bags on a machine? Well this is for both of you! \nCome to Bugweed’s and enjoy a morning together making a simple tote bag using either plain or patterned fabric. Our enthusiastic tutor\, Emma will guide you through cutting out your fabric and constructing your bag. You will be able to adjust the size to your requirements and make it personal to you both! We suggest that you make one bag between the pair of you and so adults can support the children on the sewing machines. \n  \nYou can either bring your own machine or borrow one of ours to learn your skills on. This is the perfect opportunity to get that sewing machine out that has been hiding in the back of the cupboard or that was given as a gift but has not been out of it’s box yet! \nWe welcome up to two children with each adult and adults MUST stay and supervise their children in the session. Tickets are to be purchased for each child but adults go free! \nAll materials and refreshments are provided\, please let yes know if you would like to borrow a sewing machine for the workshop. \nFor those wanting to decorate their bag\, you may want to book our afternoon workshop where Emma will guide you through different ways to decorate your items including using trimmings and basic appliqué.

It’s time to get knitting mastered with our carefully designed series of 12 workshops to help you learn all the skills you will need to be a successful confident knitter. \nEmma and Sue\, our tutors with oceans of knowledge\, are ready to guide you through every stage from casting on to working in 3d. Come and learn essential skills and techniques for different knitting projects and make some items on the way! \nDon’t rush to learn and fail\, come and take your time; ask questions and practice your skills. \nEach month there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your knitting sills and confidence will bloom! \nApril \nHand-Warmers – Part 1 of 2\nJoin us for a relaxed and friendly session exploring a range of beautiful yarns and discovering how each one feels to knit. You’ll have the chance to try four ply\, double knit\, and chunky yarns before choosing your favourite for your project. \nWe’ll learn how to create ribbing using knit and purl stitches\, then begin making your very own hand-warmers. There will be a selection of patterns to choose from\, including simple stocking stitch designs\, with an optional cable pattern for anyone feeling adventurous and ready to try something new. \nMay \nHand-Warmers – Part 2 of 2\nIn our second session\, we’ll continue working on your hand-warmers\, learning how to shape for thumbs to give them a comfortable\, snug fit. You’ll also be guided through mattress stitch\, a clever technique that allows you to sew your pieces together neatly and almost invisibly — giving your finished hand-warmers a beautiful\, professional touch. \nCome along\, build your skills\, and enjoy creating something cosy and handmade! \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\nGlasses if you need them!\n\nWhat is included? \n\nStraight knitting needles\nacrylic yarn\nall patterns required\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for complete beginners to knitting. \nAbout our tutor \nEmma and Sue are both members of the Bugweed’s team and have much experience in knitting. They both enjoy knitting a wide variety of projects using different yarns.  Emma loves to knit and crochet shawls and Sue can often be found knitting up a jumper for her grandchildren! SUMMARY:I wish I could quilt! Beginners Quilting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is a 5 week workshop\, with one session each week. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nWelcome to our Beginners Quilting workshop with Helene. If you have looked at beautiful quilts and thought how lovely it would be if you could make them too then this is your chance to learn. Helene will slowly guide you through all aspects of quilting\, from choosing colours and patterns to binding and finishing your quilt off. This is not a learning to quilt race\, it is a relaxed quilting stroll! You even get a free “Space to Craft’ session at Bugweed’s for 6 hours\, usually costing £14 which means you can come and spend time consolidating your learning and take some will earned ‘me time’! \nI wish I could quilt! \nThis course has previously run over 6 weeks\, but we’ve now condensed it into 5 sessions while extending some of the class times. This means you’ll still receive the same amount of teaching time overall. \nEach week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your quilt\, skills and confidence will bloom! \nWeek 1     10.30am – 1.30pm \nFabric choices\, layout of colours\, piecing squares in pairs and then rows. \nWeek 2    10.30am – 12.30pm \nOrganising your rows and sewing them together to create your quilt top. Begin thinking about binding choices\, make binding. \nWeek 3     10.30am – 12.30pm \nAdding borders\, choosing a backing fabric and basting your quilt layers with 505 spray. \nWeek 4     10.30am – 12.30pm \nQuilting using straight lines 1/4in from the ditch or diagonal lines. \nWeek 5       10.30am – 1.30pm \nHand sewing the binding down\, finishing your quilt\, and even having time to add a personalised label. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nSewing machine\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\n\nWhat is included? \n\n5 fat quarters of quilting cotton\nbatting (wadding) for your quilt\nthread\none free ‘Space to Craft’ day at Bugweed’s usually costing £14\n10% off all purchases in the shop for your quilt\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners however\, you do not need to have any experience of quilting. \nAbout our tutor \nHelene is not only an all round fabulous person but also a fabulous quilter! She has many years of teaching little people in school and so has the patience of a saint\, which makes teaching quilting to us adults a breeze! Helene loves quilting with a passion and can be found at her beloved Bernina sewing machine on an evening and weekend. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts\, bags and other hand made items. Helene is very understanding of people’s individual needs and ways of learning so if you have any worries\, concerns or questions about the workshops please just ask.
