DESCRIPTION:This is a 5 week workshop\, with one session each week. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nWelcome to our Beginners Quilting workshop with Helene. If you have looked at beautiful quilts and thought how lovely it would be if you could make them too then this is your chance to learn. Helene will slowly guide you through all aspects of quilting\, from choosing colours and patterns to binding and finishing your quilt off. This is not a learning to quilt race\, it is a relaxed quilting stroll! You even get a free “Space to Craft’ session at Bugweed’s for 6 hours\, usually costing £14 which means you can come and spend time consolidating your learning and take some will earned ‘me time’! \nI wish I could quilt! \nThis course has previously run over 6 weeks\, but we’ve now condensed it into 5 sessions while extending some of the class times. This means you’ll still receive the same amount of teaching time overall. \nEach week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your quilt\, skills and confidence will bloom! \nWeek 1     10.30am – 1.30pm \nFabric choices\, layout of colours\, piecing squares in pairs and then rows. \nWeek 2    10.30am – 12.30pm \nOrganising your rows and sewing them together to create your quilt top. Begin thinking about binding choices\, make binding. \nWeek 3     10.30am – 12.30pm \nAdding borders\, choosing a backing fabric and basting your quilt layers with 505 spray. \nWeek 4     10.30am – 12.30pm \nQuilting using straight lines 1/4in from the ditch or diagonal lines. \nWeek 5       10.30am – 1.30pm \nHand sewing the binding down\, finishing your quilt\, and even having time to add a personalised label. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nSewing machine\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\n\nWhat is included? \n\n5 fat quarters of quilting cotton\nbatting (wadding) for your quilt\nthread\none free ‘Space to Craft’ day at Bugweed’s usually costing £14\n10% off all purchases in the shop for your quilt\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. Helene loves quilting with a passion and can be found at her beloved Bernina sewing machine on an evening and weekend. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts\, bags and other hand made items. This one is very much tailored to our wonderful quilters at Bugweed’s as Helen has listened to your cries of frustration with half square triangles (HSTs) and has designed a block to help you master them. \nLearn how to square up the blocks and how to efficiently make the HSTs without stitching along the bias edges. No more struggling to know what to do with HSTs and no more struggling to get them the same size\, Helen is here to save the day! \nOnce you have mastered the basic block and techniques related to HSTs\, go wild and repeat it to make a whole quilt! \nThis workshop is repeated in April so please DO NOT book on to both\, places are limited! \nOur Block Of The Month\, BOTM\, sessions are full of support and friendship and we welcome both newcomers and regulars. Helene loves quilting with a passion and can be found at her beloved Bernina sewing machine on an evening and weekend. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts\, bags and other hand made items.
