SUMMARY:Love Quilting
DESCRIPTION:This is a 6 week workshop\, with one session each week. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nAre you ready for the next step on your quilting journey? Well this is for you! Helene is poised to help you master Half Square Triangles (HSTs)\, a new quilting block and more. The Moda Love Charm Quilt block will bring new techniques and challenges to your quilting skills and Helene will be there to guide you through each step from fabric choices to finishing techniques. You will also qualify for a session of ‘Space to Craft’ worth £14 which means you can come and spend time consolidating your learning and take some will earned ‘me time’! \nLove Quilting \nWeek 1 \nFabric choices\, layout of colours and cutting techniques. \nWeek 2 \nOrganising HSTs and piecing together. \nWeek 3 \nCompleting blocks and arranging them for the full quilt. \nWeek 4 \nQuilting using straight lines 1/4in from the ditch or diagonal lines. \nWeek 5 \nMake and attach the binding. \nWeek 6 \nHand sew the binding down\, finish off your quilt and even have chance to make a label for it! \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nSewing machine\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\n\nWhat is included? \n\n1 charm pack\nthread\none free ‘Space to Craft’ day at Bugweed’s usually costing £14\n10% off all purchases in the shop for your quilt\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for improving beginners to quilting. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete beginners quilters – look for out our Beginners Quilting course coming soon! \nAbout our tutor \nHelene is not only an all round fabulous person but also a fabulous quilter! She has many years of teaching little people in school and so has the patience of a saint\, which makes teaching quilting to us adults a breeze! Helene loves quilting with a passion and can be found at her beloved Bernina sewing machine on an evening and weekend. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts\, bags and other hand made items. Helene is very understanding of people’s individual needs and ways of learning so if you have any worries\, concerns or questions about the workshops please just ask.

SUMMARY:Conquering Crochet Workshop 2
DESCRIPTION:It’s time for workshop 2 of our beginners crochet classes with our very own Sophie\, AKA Campeycrafts on Instagram. In these three sessions\, Sophie will help you build on the crochet foundations you already have and continue to develop your confidence mastering the classic granny square pattern and then make a bag using the techniques you have learned. \nSophie will help you conquer a magic circle\, the basis of so many crochet patterns! In the following two sessions\, you will then learn how to change colours and yarns\, she will help you join your granny squares\, crochet a button hole and then complete your bag. The bag will be made in a cotton yarn and lots of different colours will be available. \nYarn\, hook and light refreshments are included.  \nLeft or right handed\, everyone is welcome from age 14 upwards. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\npatience\nyour glasses if you need them!\nenthusiasm\n\nRequired  knowledge/experience \nSuitable for beginners! You should be able to make some basic crochet stitches as this will help with focusing on the new skill of the magic circle. \nAbout our tutor \nSophie has been with us at Bugweed’s for over 6 months and is an avid crocheter. She has her own instagram page where she posts her makes and enjoys making toys\, jumpers and cardigans. Sophie has the patience of a saint and is ready for all your questions regarding hooks\, yarns\, crochet and general yarnny matters!

Please read the details of each workshop.  \nWelcome to Bugweed’s Knitting Club! It’s time to get knitting mastered with our carefully designed series of 12 workshops to help you learn all the skills you will need to be a successful confident knitter. \nEmma and Sue\, our tutors with oceans of knowledge\, are ready to guide you through every stage from casting on to working in 3d. Come and learn essential skills and techniques for different knitting projects and make some items on the way! \nDon’t rush to learn and fail\, come and take your time; ask questions and practice your skills. \nEach week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your knitting sills and confidence will bloom! \nJanuary \nCast on techniques and learn the knit stitch. Start knitting your dishcloth using garter stitch and acrylic yarn. \nFebruary \nPractice your knit stitch and learn how to cast off. Complete your dishcloth. \nMarch \nAdd a pearl stitch to the knit and learn how to knit and pearl. Practice stocking stitch. \nApril \nLearn how to increase and decrease your stitches in knitting including ‘make 1’. \nMay \nUnderstand how to knit a rib\, use stitch markers and begin to read patterns. Start to knit some hand warmers. \nJune \nContinue to practice your skills by knitting hand warmers. Learn the basics of sewing up and complete your hand warmer. \nJuly \nExplore and learn all about different yarns\, various weights and how to accurately substitute yarns in patterns. \nAugust \nBegin to tackle knitting in the round and learn about circular needles. Start to knit a cowl using wool based yarn. \nSeptember \nContinue to master knitting in the round on circular needles and learn all about blocking; how and why you block. \nOctober \nLearn how to change yarn colour when knitting. \nNovember \nBegin to understand techniques in knitting in 3d. Start your Christmas decorations! \nDecember \nContinue to learn about knitting in 3d and complete your decoration. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\nGlasses if you need them!\n\nWhat is included? \n\nStraight knitting needles\nacrylic yarn\nall patterns required\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for complete beginners to knitting. \nAbout our tutor \nEmma and Sue are both members of the Bugweed’s team and have much experience in knitting. They both enjoy knitting a wide variety of projects using different yarns.  Emma loves to knit and crochet shawls and Sue can often be found knitting up a jumper for her grandchildren! They are kind\, caring and patient\, making them the perfect tutors for our very beginners knitting club!

SUMMARY:Zip it! Mastering Standard Zips
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Skills Sessions of Bugweed’s Sewing School with Hannah. In this session you will become more proficient in sewing standard zips. Hannah will share her hints and tips on handling zips\, including inserting and shortening standard zips. Zips can be a real nightmare and sewists often tell us about there experiences of fighting with them when inserting them or even avoiding them at all costs! Stop avoiding! Come and join us and begin to love zips! \nPlease note\, this is Part 1 of 2 zip workshops. Part 2 covers concealed or invisible zips. The workshops are stand alone and are paid for separately. \nRequired sewing knowledge and experience \nA good basic knowledge of a sewing machine and be able to sew a straight stitch. Attendees need to be familiar with loading a bobbin\, changing a needle and changing the foot on their sewing machine. \nThis session is not suitable for absolute beginners that haven’t got experience of using a sewing machine or sewing fabric together. Please see our Brilliant Beginners workshops for more help with starting using your sewing machine. \nFabric and tool requirements \nPlease bring your own sewing machine and supplies with you. You will need to have a zipper foot\, marking tools (preferably a heat erasable pen) and thread in 2 colours\, contrasting thread to be used in the bobbin. \nEverything else you will need will be provided for the workshop.
