SUMMARY:I wish I could quilt! Beginners Quilting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is a 6 week workshop\, with one session each week. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nWelcome to our first Beginners Quilting workshop with Helene. If you have looked at beautiful quilts and thought how lovely it would be if you could make them too then this is your chance to learn. Helene will slowly guide you through all aspects of quilting\, from choosing colours and patterns to binding and finishing your quilt off. This is not a learning to quilt race\, it is a relaxed quilting stroll! You even get a free “Space to Craft’ session at Bugweed’s for 6 hours\, usually costing £14 which means you can come and spend time consolidating your learning and take some will earned ‘me time’! \nI wish I could quilt! \nEach week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your quilt\, skills and confidence will bloom! \nWeek 1 \nFabric choices\, layout of colours\, piecing squares in pairs and then into a block of 4. \nWeek 2 \nOrganising blocks and sewing blocks together. \nWeek 3 \nAdding borders\, choosing a backing fabric and basting with 505 spray. \nWeek 4 \nQuilting using straight lines 1/4in from the ditch or diagonal lines. \nWeek 5 \nMake and attach the binding. \nWeek 6 \nHand sew the binding down\, finish off your quilt and even have chance to make a label for it! \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nSewing machine\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\n\nWhat is included? \n\n5 fat quarters of quilting cotton\nbatting (wadding) for your quilt\nthread\none free ‘Space to Craft’ day at Bugweed’s usually costing £14\n10% off all purchases in the shop for your quilt\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners to quilting. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s basic features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners however\, you do not need to have any experience of quilting. \nAbout our tutor \nHelene is not only an all round fabulous person but also a fabulous quilter! She has many years of teaching little people in school and so has the patience of a saint\, which makes teaching quilting to us adults a breeze! Helene loves quilting with a passion and can be found at her beloved Bernina sewing machine on an evening and weekend. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts\, bags and other hand made items. Helene is very understanding of people’s individual needs and ways of learning so if you have any worries\, concerns or questions about the workshops please just ask.

DESCRIPTION:This is a 4 week hand stitching journey\, with one session each week. It is made up of one hour directed teaching with our tutor\, Helene and then the following hour being self directed sewing time. If you cannot attend them all\, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible! \nSlow down\, stitch by stitch\, and discover the quiet joy of English Paper Piecing. \nSlow Down & Quilt \nThis four-week course is designed for anyone who wants to learn the timeless art of hand-pieced patchwork. Whether you are completely new to quilting or looking to expand your skills\, you’ll learn the foundations of English Paper Piecing (EPP) and create your own beautiful Granny’s Garden arrangement of hexagons. \nWe will begin with simple plain fabrics to build confidence and accuracy\, then gradually move into the magic of fussy cutting – where fabric motifs align to create stunning kaleidoscope effects. By the end of the course\, you’ll have a finished collection of hexagon flowers ready to turn into a cushion\, mini quilt\, or small heirloom piece. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nA fussy cutting fabric pack (either from your own stash or available to purchase through our shop)\nThread\nEnthusiasm\nA notebook and pen\n\nWhat is included? \n\nPaper template pieces\nGlue pens\nNeedles\n10% off all purchases in the shop for your piece\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for all who are wanting to take their time over a hand stitching project and learn a new skill or just enjoy practicing an old one! \nAbout our tutor \nHelene is not only an all round fabulous person but also a fabulous quilter! DESCRIPTION:It’s back! Your favourite monthly quilting workshop! Block Of The Month returns for February and March with the 60 degree triangle. Whether you are a master or a complete beginner with this shape\, you will have a fabulous day with Helen and sew the most beautiful block! \nYou will be using a quilting ruler with a 60 degree marking on it to explore cutting\, piecing and quilting this versatile shape. The block can also be easily turned into a table runner. \nThis workshop is a repeat of February so please DO NOT book on to both\, places are limited! \nOur Block Of The Month\, BOTM\, sessions are full of support and friendship and we welcome both newcomers and regulars. This is the only time this workshop will run this year. \nWhat do you need to bring? \n\nx5 contrasting Width Of Fabric pieces at least 25cm of each (Please use 100% cotton)\nquilting ruler with 60 degree marking\nmatching thread\nrotary cutter\ncutting mat\n1/4” foot or capability to move needle on your machine to 1/4” (ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY)\noptional – 0.5m backing fabric and batting for a table runner\n\nWhat is included? \n\nrefreshments (please bring your own lunch)\ntutoring\nfriendship!\n\nRequired sewing knowledge/experience \nThis workshop is suitable for all intermediate quilters. You will need to be familiar with your machine and how to use it’s features such as winding and inserting the bobbin\, threading up your machine and needle\, changing the feet and needle and sewing a straight stitch. This session is not suitable for complete sewing machine beginners. You must have a 1/4″ foot or the ability to move your needle to the 1/4″ seam allowance.
