Knitting Club Workshop 1

This club is a series of 12 workshops. It is not necessary to attend each one but some projects will span 2 workshops. Please read the details of each workshop.
Welcome to Bugweed’s Knitting Club! It’s time to get knitting mastered with our carefully designed series of 12 workshops to help you learn all the skills you will need to be a successful confident knitter.
Emma and Sue, our tutors with oceans of knowledge, are ready to guide you through every stage from casting on to working in 3d. Come and learn essential skills and techniques for different knitting projects and make some items on the way!
Don’t rush to learn and fail, come and take your time; ask questions and practice your skills.
Each week there will be different a focus for learning and slowly but surely your knitting sills and confidence will bloom!
January
Cast on techniques and learn the knit stitch. Start knitting your dishcloth using garter stitch and acrylic yarn.
February
Practice your knit stitch and learn how to cast off. Complete your dishcloth.
March
Add a pearl stitch to the knit and learn how to knit and pearl. Practice stocking stitch.
April
Learn how to increase and decrease your stitches in knitting including ‘make 1’.
May
Understand how to knit a rib, use stitch markers and begin to read patterns. Start to knit some hand warmers.
June
Continue to practice your skills by knitting hand warmers. Learn the basics of sewing up and complete your hand warmer.
July
Explore and learn all about different yarns, various weights and how to accurately substitute yarns in patterns.
August
Begin to tackle knitting in the round and learn about circular needles. Start to knit a cowl using wool based yarn.
September
Continue to master knitting in the round on circular needles and learn all about blocking; how and why you block.
October
Learn how to change yarn colour when knitting.
November
Begin to understand techniques in knitting in 3d. Start your Christmas decorations!
December
Continue to learn about knitting in 3d and complete your decoration.
What do you need to bring?

Required sewing knowledge/experience
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners to knitting.
About our tutor
Emma and Sue are both members of the Bugweed’s team and have much experience in knitting. They both enjoy knitting a wide variety of projects using different yarns. Emma loves to knit and crochet shawls and Sue can often be found knitting up a jumper for her grandchildren! They are kind, caring and patient, making them the perfect tutors for our very beginners knitting club!
