This is a 4 week hand stitching journey, with one session each week. It is made up of one hour directed teaching with our tutor, Helene and then the following hour being self directed sewing time. If you cannot attend them all, please let us know and we will try and accommodate you as much as possible!

Slow Down & Quilt

This four-week course is designed for anyone who wants to learn the timeless art of hand-pieced patchwork. Whether you are completely new to quilting or looking to expand your skills, you’ll learn the foundations of English Paper Piecing (EPP) and create your own beautiful Granny’s Garden arrangement of hexagons.

We will begin with simple plain fabrics to build confidence and accuracy, then gradually move into the magic of fussy cutting – where fabric motifs align to create stunning kaleidoscope effects. By the end of the course, you’ll have a finished collection of hexagon flowers ready to turn into a cushion, mini quilt, or small heirloom piece.

What do you need to bring?

• A fussy cutting fabric pack (either from your own stash or available to purchase through our shop)
• Thread
• Enthusiasm
• A notebook and pen

Required sewing knowledge/experience

This workshop is suitable for all who are wanting to take their time over a hand stitching project and learn a new skill or just enjoy practicing an old one!

About our tutor

Helene is not only an all round fabulous person but also a fabulous quilter! She has many years of teaching little people in school and so has the patience of a saint, which makes teaching quilting to us adults a breeze! Helene loves quilting with a passion and can be found at her beloved Bernina sewing machine on an evening and weekend. She is part of the Yorkshire Modern Quilters group and enjoys experimenting with colour and pattern in her quilts, bags and other hand made items. Helene is very understanding of people’s individual needs and ways of learning so if you have any worries, concerns or questions about the workshops please just ask.
