Sock Knitting Workshop
September 19, 2024 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
£30.00Join Catherine to learn how to knit socks!
In this workshop we will discover the various ways of knitting socks and work through a small size sock to practise the techniques. By the end of the workshop you will know how to knit a basic top-down sock, including techniques for turning the heel. You will also be familiar with some of the other approaches to sock construction and be ready to dive into the wide world of warm feet! During the workshop we will use two circular needles to knit in the round, but if you are already familiar and comfortable with either magic loop or using double pointed needles, you are welcome to use these instead.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring DK weight yarn (any wool or synthetic fibre) and two separate 3mm circular needles (see note above if you would like to use other needles). A printed pattern will be provided.
Previous experience required?
Aimed at anyone already comfortable with knit and purl stitches. Techniques used in the workshop will include knitting in the round using two circulars, decreases, picking up stitches and slipped stitches. These will all be explained by Catherine.
About our tutor
Catherine learnt to knit as a new mum, desperate for something to do where she could see progress. It worked, and a decade on she still loves the ability to create fabric out of yarn, to play with colour, texture and pattern, and to fit garments to bodies of any shape and size. She has published several knitting patterns of her own and also enjoys spinning her own yarn.
